Issuing and renewing passports in 7,500 post offices: Polis project expands access in small municipalities
Poste Italiane extends its passport service to the entire country, promoting digital and social inclusion in municipalities of under 15,000 inhabitants.
In 7,500 post offices it is possible to apply for the issue and renewal of a passport. This was announced by Poste Italiane.
All 6,932 post offices of the Polis project - Poste's initiative for economic, social and territorial cohesion and overcoming the digital divide in municipalities with fewer than 15,000 inhabitants - have been enabled.
They are joined by 431 offices in large cities, such as Rome, Milan, Naples, Florence, Bologna, Verona, Venice and Cagliari. The passport issuing and renewal service, started in March 2024 with the trial in the province of Bologna, now involves the whole country.
Post offices issued approximately 206,000 passports, of which 156,000 in Polis municipalities.
The project also includes the possibility of receiving the document at home (a choice made by 8 out of 10 people living in small towns). The initiative was realised through an agreement between Poste Italiane, the Ministry of the Interior and the Ministry of Enterprise and Made in Italy.
