As of 16 October, Poste Italiane will further expand the network of post offices where passports can be requested. The service will be activated at 1,900 offices in municipalities with fewer than 15,000 inhabitants, which are part of the Polis project. But it will also be extended to other capital cities after Bologna, Cagliari, Verona and Rome, where passport issuing was launched in August, thanks to an agreement signed between the company headed by Matteo Del Fante and the Ministry of the Interior.
The plan is to extend the service in October also to Milan.
There will be 32 provincial capitals where it will be possible to request the document, including Venice, Monza, Parma, Perugia and Reggio Calabria, while the start-up in some offices in Milan is being evaluated. If in the Lombard capital it is not done in time for October, the opening will certainly take place in November. The 32 capitals are part of a list of more than 500 offices in municipalities with over 15,000 inhabitants to which the service will be extended. By the end of October, therefore, a further 2,300 offices are expected to be authorised to issue passports, in addition to the approximately 300 already operational. These include 212 municipalities in the Polis project, plus 81 offices in the cities of Bologna, Verona, Perugia, and Cagliari. This week, the 12 offices in the capital started up, where an extension of the service to other offices will take place at the end of September.
