Key points
Today, 13 April, a new phase in the dispute between Peg Perego, the historic pram, car seat and cot manufacturer from Lombardy, opened with an initial inspection of the Veneto plants in Ceggia and San Donà di Piave.
L’advisor
On 9 April last, the situation - after the announcement at the end of March of the company's intention to move the production lines to Arcore and the subsequent strikes - went to the Ministry of Enterprise and Made in Italy. Meanwhile, the solidarity contract was renewed, from 1 April to 22 September 2026. At the table - attended by the Fim-Cisl and Fiom-Cgil of Venice, the Fim-Cisl MBL and Fiom-Cgil MB of Monza, the Rsu of both plants, the company management assisted by Confindustria Veneto and Lecco-Sondrio, the Veneto and Lombardy regions, local institutions and Invitalia - was presented the consultancy company (advisory) appointed by the company, Vertus, to which Peg Perego has given a mandate to work on a reindustrialisation project for the Arcore and San Donà plants. Ceggia currently houses a plant rented to third parties, while on San Donà, which has been halved in the past few years, hangs an option to purchase the part of the warehouse still occupied by production.
Gaining time
'We have not obtained a commitment not to demobilise,' emphasises Riccardo Montagner, Fim Cisl Venice, 'but the company has never acted unilaterally in the past. The inspection assessed the conditions of the building in Ceggia to understand whether it is an option to transfer production here, just seven kilometres from San Donà. Certainly the advisor needs time to identify the way out of the crisis'.
At Mimit, the company also announced that in parallel a second company, whose name has not been disclosed, will be tasked with defining a strategic plan for repositioning and relaunching the group to ensure business continuity.
The next meeting
From the unions the request to give the consultancy companies time to work and to present an overall industrial project, without moving production between plants, in order to protect the continuity of production at the Italian sites and to defend jobs. On the subject, the councillor for Economic Development of the Veneto Region, Massimo Bitonci, recalled that 'as the Veneto Region we have so far supported the restructuring of the Peg Perego site in San Donà di Piave with regional active labour policies for the outplacement of the workers who have so far left. With regard to the current situation, we hope for a positive outcome that does not generate further redundancies to be managed'.
