Petrol in served mode has already broken through the psychological ceiling of 2.5 euro per litre in some Italian petrol stations - these are borderline cases -, with the aggravating circumstance that the new record prices are not recorded on motorways, where fuel prices are notoriously higher, but on the ordinary network. This was noted by Assoutenti, which analysed the latest public prices communicated by the operators to Mimit and published on the ministry's website.
Verifying the data published on the special fuel price monitor and referring to the date of 16 February, the association found that "some distributors sell green fuel at prices already higher than 2.5 euro per litre. This is the case, for example, of a pump located in Taranto, where petrol costs EUR 2.537 per litre, diesel EUR 2.447 per litre. Also in the province of Benevento, petrol on tap has exceeded 2.5 euro per litre (e.g. at the Giap petrol station in Via Provinciale in Arpaise) and is sold at 2.522 euro, while the highest price among those recorded was at a petrol station in the province of Palermo, which, according to the latest data, however, stopped on 15 February, sold a litre of green at 2.565 euro, 2.495 euro/litre the diesel".

On the motorway

On the highway network, as of 16 February, the most expensive petrol "is that sold on the A21 near Piacenza: 2.499 euro per litre". "Today a full tank of petrol costs almost 5 euro more than at the beginning of the year, while a full tank of diesel costs 5.5 euro more. - denounces the president of Assoutenti, Gabriele Melluso - The real risk is that the new wave of rises at the pump will lead to an inflationary spiral through an increase in the retail prices of goods that travel by road and represent 88% of the goods sold in Italy".
