Petrol, prices towards 2 euro per litre. More expensive in Bolzano and the South
Petrol and diesel prices will be less distant, as the government's new cut is mostly aimed at diesel

Key points
The misalignment between petrol and diesel prices has its hours counted. With the new decree, passed in the Council of Ministers on Thursday, the cost of diesel will remain the same, while that of green will increase by 18.3 cents per litre. List prices at stations, from 2 May, will be around 2 euro per litre for both fuels.
The new government intervention
The new rebate on petrol excise duty, in fact, is 6.1 cents per litre. The one that was in force from 19 March to 1 May, on the other hand, is 24.4 cents per litre, the same as for diesel.
The reason why the government opted for two different discounts is the price difference. That is, EUR 2.050 per litre for diesel and EUR 1.750 for petrol.
Gasoline price hike from 2 May
So, from 2 May, the petrol price hike will start. Calculator in hand, the average price is expected to exceed EUR 1.930 per litre. The rise in prices may not be immediate, for the same reasons that the descent was not: above all, the fact that the oil companies fill up early (so when the 24.4 cents discount was still in place).
On the other hand, however, it has to be said that the cost of crude oil - the raw material for fuels - continues to maintain high prices, close to USD 110 per barrel for Brent. The (still) unstable situation in the Strait of Hormuz certainly does not help.
