"The continuation of the seismic swarm, which in two months has recorded three tremors well felt by the population, suggests the need to proceed with the declaration of a state of national emergency in the Phlegraean Fields area," said the minister for civil protection and sea policies, Nello Musumeci. This was stated by the Minister for Civil Protection and Sea Policies, Nello Musumeci, at the end of the summit held in Rome, which was attended by the head of the Civil Protection department, Fabio Ciciliano, the head of the department for prevention and reconstruction of Casa Italia, Luigi Ferrara, the head of the cabinet, Riccardo Rigillo, and the head of the legislative office, Francesco De Luca.

Three earthquake tremors were recorded today in the Phlegraean Fields, two of them strong. The first tremor, felt clearly in Naples, even at low levels, caused fear in the area of the Phlegraean municipalities: in Pozzuoli and the other centres, people went out into the streets. There are currently no reports of damage.

The first tremor, of magnitude 2.1, was followed by a second of 4.4 degrees, at 12.07pm, which occurred at a depth of 2.6 km. The second, at 12:22 p.m., with a magnitude of 3.5, had its epicentre, as detected by the Vesuvius Observatory, the Neapolitan branch of the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology, also near the port of Pozzuoli at a depth of 2.8 km. The earthquake tremors were felt by the population in the Phlegraean municipalities and the western area of Naples.

From 12.10pm at the Naples junction, railway traffic is suspended as a precautionary measure to allow the state of the line to be checked following an earthquake tremor in the area, informs the FS. Rfi technicians are currently working to carry out the necessary checks on the line.

The magnitude 4.4 earthquake that occurred in the Phlegraean Fields at 12.07am was part of a seismic swarm that began moments earlier with a magnitude 2.1 tremor. This was said by the director of the Volcanoes department of the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology, Francesca Bianco. All the earthquakes occurred at "a depth increasingly affected by these higher energies", and the main tremor is located in the sea, at a point very close to the coast west of the Terra district. "The value of the ground uplift in recent weeks is estimated at around 1.5 centimetres and so far no increase in the rate of uplift has been observed. In the coming hours we will be able to assess this better."

Lectures resumed at the University

.

After the immediate evacuation of the Fuorigrotta, Agnano and via Claudio buildings of the University of Naples Federico II, as per technical protocol, and after the 'visual' inspection check, required by safety regulations, activities are resuming normally. In all the other university buildings, no critical situations have been reported and there have been no evacuations.
