GDP: Confcommercio predicts a stronger recovery in the Centre-North in 2026, whilst the South struggles

+0.9 per cent, driven by the North; in the South, consumption remains below 2007 levels

(Il Sole 24 Ore Radiocor) - In 2026, with growth of 0.9 per cent – broadly in line with France (+1 per cent) but more than double that of Germany (+0.4 per cent) – and consumption at 1.2 per cent, Italia will post better results than those achieved in 2025. This is according to an analysis by the Confcommercio Research Department on regional GDP and consumption for 2025–2026, which states, however, that the recovery will proceed at different paces across the country. “Growth is being driven,” the study states, “primarily by the regions of the Centre-North, whilst the South, partly due to lower incomes and the continuing population decline, maintains a more subdued pace, particularly in terms of household consumption, which, in many regions of this area, still remains below 2007 levels.”
