Pinot Bianco Collio, good practices in the vineyard

The project has just turned three years old. The 'Pinot Bianco nel Collio' business network was promoted by wineries that believe in the vine, which is cultivated in the easternmost part of Friuli Venezia Giulia, in the province of Gorizia, on the border with Slovenia, and is a symbol of excellent production in a region that is world-renowned precisely for its fine whites.

As is the case with almost all Italian businesses, there is a family history behind a company, and in this case there are as many as six families as there are members of the wine network. The network, which is certainly not an exception in the sector, is made up of winegrowers who, since 2021 (the date refers to the notarial passage, but the idea was born well before), have decided to team up: Venica & Venica, Castello di Spessa, Livon, Russiz Superiore, Toros and Komjanc. They all pursue good practices in the vineyard and cellar under the banner of sustainability.

"It is one of our priorities that we also apply to the other wines; Pinot Grigio is still the top white commercially, but Pinot Bianco is our bet, it needs to be told, because it has great potential," Ornella Venica, the network's contact person, has repeatedly emphasised. The network also aims to be a driver for the new generations, and a way to tell the identity values that each winery has handed down, as well as a territory and a product that maintains the freshness, minerality and elegance typical of the area's wines. To make the excellence of white wine known in combination with the best typical products of the North East, the network took part in the second edition of the Bianco Weekend in spring, an event created by Confcommercio Portogruaro, Bibione, Caorle and Globetrotter Gourmet in collaboration with the Municipality of San Michele al Tagliamento and the Bibione Live tourist promotion consortium.

The event married white asparagus and sea buckthorn, a spontaneous plant whose berries possess various beneficial properties, to white in tastings at 24 stalls. The network also took part, together with food brands, in the last edition of Cibus and collaborated with the Bubble's Club circuit, a network of exclusive Italian restaurants desired by the publisher and writer Andrea Zanfi.
