After four years as sole supplier to the WRC, Pirelli says goodbye to the world's top rally championship. "We will continue to be present in several championships including the European one, we need it for know-how. It's not goodbye, maybe we'll be back," said Mario Isola, head of Pirelli motorsport, at an event in Milan - also attended by executive vice-president Marco Tronchetti Provera and CEO Andrea Casaluci. There is already a precedent of three years - from 2008-2010 - as sole supplier.
Tronchetti emphasised the importance of racing, where grip is everything, to develop innovative and competitive tyres on all types of terrain.
In addition to the European championship Pirelli will participate in 40 national rally championships next year as well as the GT championships and F1 where it will continue as sole supplier until 2027. In total the group will be present in 230 motorsport championships, 250 if motorbikes are included.
