Pirelli Cyber Tyre, three more new international awards
The system that turns tyres into intelligent, connected components has received new international recognition for the safety and innovative vocation it guarantees.
Key points
The Pirelli Cyber Tyre, after two decades of development and initial tests on the models of several car manufacturers, is the first in the world to be able to collect data from sensors inserted in the tyres and process them through proprietary algorithms communicating, always in real time, with the vehicle's electronics. The features of this system, both hardware and software, have earned it several international awards. The last three in chronological order are the Safety Award at the Automobile Awards 2025 in France, the Safetybest 2026 title awarded by the Autobest jury representing 32 countries and, finally, the Company of the Year awarded by the US company Frost&Sullivan, recognising the innovative scope of Pirelli's system.
The system communicates with infrastructure and vehicles
The Pirelli Cyber Tyre system has innovative qualities that allow it to go beyond in-car features to embrace infrastructure, with the aim of improving its safety and quality, as demonstrated by the collaboration inaugurated last June with the Region of Puglia. The project uses the system by combining tyre data with images from on-board cameras to create a dynamic map of the roads, signalling their status, facilitating maintenance scheduling and improving safety. Then, thanks to Vehicle-to-Everything (V2X) connectivity, Cyber Tyre communicates with infrastructure and even vehicles, thanks to smart roads, smart cities and the evolution of autonomous driving through road conditions, hazards and signage.
An increasing number of manufacturers have used it
The impact of Pirelli Cyber Tyre technology is already tangible on some of the most prestigious car manufacturers' models, from the McLaren Artura of 2021 to brands such as Audi, Pagani and soon Aston Martin. A growing number of carmakers are, in fact, using Cyber Tyre on their flagship models, based on the awareness of its advantages in terms of both performance and the safety and innovation that this technology can offer. Pirelli's role as a technology leader is thus strengthened, thanks to an innovative vision that focuses not only on safety, but also on the digitisation of future mobility, an integrated ecosystem where vehicles, tyres, infrastructures and cities constantly dialogue with each other.
