Pirelli: the Government adopts Golden Power following an agreement with Abet Hts
The Council of Ministers is imposing special measures to safeguard industrial property and know-how as part of a strategic project for remotely piloted land vehicles
(Il Sole 24 Ore Radiocor) - The Italian government has initiated the ‘Golden Power’ procedure ‘to safeguard the activities carried out by Pirelli-Abet Hts in the defence sector’. The Bicocca-based group announced this in a statement. The two companies – which last August signed a partnership agreement for the joint development of remotely piloted ground vehicles – were notified on 28 September of the measure, approved on 24 September, whereby the Council of Ministers exercised its special powers.
The Prime Ministerial Decree “has deemed that the activities carried out in the defence sector by both Pirelli and Abet HTS, as well as the co-development agreement, are of strategic importance to the defence system, pursuant to Article 1 of Decree-Law 2012”, the statement explains.
‘In accordance with the principle of maximum precaution and to safeguard the essential interests of national defence and security, the Prime Ministerial Decree has laid down technical and organisational requirements’ for the two companies, ‘with a view to safeguarding industrial property rights, know-how, products and related data of strategic importance to the national defence and security system, and to ensure the continuity and standard of Pirelli’s and Abet HTS’s research and development activities for all work carried out, and to be carried out, in this sector”. Pirelli and Abet ‘welcome the decision adopted by the Prime Minister’s Office’.
