Pirelli invests in Ridesense to develop a smarter Cyber Tyre
The aim is to enhance the technology by integrating data from physical sensors with virtual data for key vehicle safety functions, such as aquaplaning detection

Pirelli is stepping up its focus on the Cyber Type ecosystem. The company has signed a collaboration agreement with the start-up Ridesense, a spin-off from the Department of Industrial Engineering at the University of Naples Federico II and the MegaRide group, which specialises in the development of advanced mobility technologies, with the aim of developing new software to be integrated into the Cyber Tyre and making it even smarter.
The terms of the partnership looking ahead
The agreement, which provides for the granting of a licence to Pirelli for Ridesense’s virtual sensors and sets out specific safeguards regarding the granting of rights to third parties, is aimed at Pirelli acquiring a 24.99% stake in Ridesense, with an option to increase this to 100% of the share capital. It is no coincidence that Pirelli has established itself as a global brand currently participating in more than 350 motor racing and motorcycling events.
Ridesence’s algorithms for the Cyber Tyre
The integration of the physical sensors in the Pirelli Cyber Tyre system with Ridesens’ virtual sensors – which are algorithms that process information provided by the sensors already fitted in vehicles – will expand the contribution made by Cyber Tyre to electronic safety systems in cars. It will enable the consolidation of existing functions, such as aquaplaning detection, and the development of new ones relating to tyre diagnostics and, more generally, vehicle diagnostics.
