F1: Pirelli to remain the sole tyre supplier until 2028
The Bicocca group’s contract has been extended for another year. Tronchetti Provera: Formula 1 is the best testing ground for innovation
Pirelli has extended its involvement in Formula 1 until 2028, remaining the sole tyre supplier to the FIA Formula One World Championship. The International Automobile Federation has exercised its option to extend the current contract with the Italian company by one year.
To be precise, Pirelli’s contract – under which it has supplied tyres for the top-flight single-seaters since 2011 – was due to run until 2027, but a clause in the three-year contract starting in 2025 provided for the option to extend it by a further year. The FIA and F1 have therefore decided by mutual agreement to activate this clause to ensure continuity. Pirelli will also continue to supply tyres for F2 and F3 cars at least until 2028. “This renewal until the end of 2028 ensures stability for the championship and reflects the strong partnership between the FIA, the Formula 1 Group and Pirelli,” commented H.E. Mohammed Ben Sulayem, President of the FIA. “We have enjoyed an incredible history and partnership with Pirelli,” added Stefano Domenicali, Chairman and CEO of the Formula 1 Group. “I am therefore delighted that the FIA and we will be continuing this relationship for another year.”
