Pisa, Scuola Sant'Anna organises the 'Navigating Complexity' review

A series of meetings to help trace new possible routes within the open sea of contemporaneity, offering solutions for interpreting an increasingly complex world. The Scuola Superiore Sant'Anna of Pisa is organising the first edition of 'Navigating Complexity - Meetings with those who narrate the changing world', scheduled at the School's headquarters on Thursday 19 and Friday 20 March. At a time when global phenomena appear to be increasingly interconnected and difficult to interpret, the review was created with the aim of offering a space for reflection and discussion on the major themes of the contemporary world.

Geopolitics, health, economics, inclusion and social transformations will be the focus of a series of meetings designed to explore the dynamics that are redefining our present. The guests for this first edition are Roberta Villa, scientific journalist and expert on health issues, journalist Francesco Semprini, international correspondent for the daily newspaper La Stampa, and Luca Freschi, CEO of Fody Fabrics, a benefit company and innovative start-up with a social vocation. Each guest will dialogue with lecturers from the Scuola Sant'Anna, in an open discussion combining research and popularisation. Navigating complexity" is thus proposed as a cultural compass for students, citizens: a path of encounters that, stage by stage, provides clearer and more rigorous reading tools to orient oneself in a reality marked by rapid changes, uncertainties and new global challenges. Participation is free of charge, subject to registration. The series of events takes place within the framework of 'MERITA, the network for talent', a project financed by the Pnrr.

The programme of the three meetings - Thursday 19 March 2026 - 6 p.m. in the Aula Magna of the Scuola Superiore Sant'Anna. Roberta Villa, science journalist, in dialogue with Giuseppe Vergaro, associate professor at the Scuola Superiore Sant'Anna. Dialogue on the complexity of prevention and the value of a scientific approach to health. The meeting explores how effective prevention is based on evidence, healthy lifestyles and targeted controls, helping to better understand the relationship between benefits, risks and informed choices for individual and collective wellbeing.

Friday 20 March 2026 - 5 p.m. in the Aula Magna of the Scuola Superiore Sant'Anna. Francesco Semprini, international correspondent for La Stampa, in dialogue with Francesca Capone, associate professor at the Scuola Superiore Sant'Anna. For over a decade, Francesco Semprini has been reporting on conflicts and geopolitical crises from all over the world. The meeting at the Scuola is dedicated to the change of information in modern conflict scenarios, where speed, technology and propaganda redefine the way of reporting reality: a discussion on the difficulties of obtaining accurate and reliable output in complex crisis conditions, between disinformation and media pressure.

Friday 20 March 2026 - 6 p.m. in the Aula Magna of the Scuola Superiore Sant'Anna. Luca Freschi, Ceo of Fody Fabrics, in dialogue with Elena Vivaldi, ProRector for Inclusion, Disability and Gender Equality Policies, and Alberto Di Minin, Dean of the Social Sciences academic class. Fody Fabrics is a benefit company and innovative start-up with a social vocation that promotes a positive-impact business model to solve several problems at the same time: valorising production leftovers, avoiding waste with a negative impact on the environment, offering training and work opportunities to disadvantaged people. The meeting reflects on how inclusion and sustainability can become concrete levers of innovation and development, with a view to valuing people and circular economy.
