Pnrr: Commission disburses sixth instalment to Italy of 8.7 billion

The European Commission has disbursed EUR 6.9 billion in loans and EUR 1.8 billion in grants, net of pre-financing, to Italy as the sixth instalment of the Pnrr. This was announced by the European executive. The total of the sixth instalment is 8.7 billion.
The Italian request
.On 28 June 2024 Italy submitted its sixth payment request, covering 39 milestones and targets. These include reforms in public administration, improving human resources, public procurement and tax administration, and in social policy, including the fight against undeclared work and support for the dependent elderly. Also included are investments in digitisation, such as the development of digital logistics platforms and the modernisation of national parks, as well as sustainability efforts, including waste management and agro-solar development.
The Brussels Evaluation
On 26 November 2024, the Commission adopted a positive preliminary assessment of the request, followed by the favourable opinion of the Economic and Financial Committee of the Council, paving the way for the final decision on disbursement. To date, Italy has received a total of EUR 122.2 billion out of the EUR 194.4 billion allocated under the Recovery Plan.

"Italy is confirmed as the EU Member State that has received the largest amount of funding, equal to EUR 122 billion, corresponding to 63% of the overall PNRR allocation. A positive result that will allow Italy to invest in many strategic sectors," writes Palazzo Chigi in a note.
Foti: commitment to request seventh instalment Pnrr within the year
"The positive work carried out to reach the sixth instalment is followed by the Government's commitment to formalise, by the end of the year, also the request for payment of the seventh instalment, amounting to EUR 18.3 billion, paying the utmost attention to the monitoring of the plan and of the measures included in the last three instalments, to the findings of the coordination cabins at the Prefectures, and to the consequent action plans". This was stated by the Minister for European Affairs, the NRP and Cohesion Policies, Tommaso Foti.
