Pnrr, the City of Naples invests one billion: commitments at 79 per cent

Investments amounting to 1 billion euro to be realised by 2026, those initiated by the City of Naples on the city with funds from the NRP (677 million) and cohesion funds (323 million). Of this billion, an average of 79% has been committed so far.
The data of the Naples Economy and Society Observatory, which has produced a Fosus on the interventions promoted with Pnrr funds. The observatory is co-ordinated by Gaetano Vecchione (University Federico II) and is composed of: Salvatore Biondo (IFEL), Paola De Vivo (University Federico II), Giuseppe Lucio Gaeta (University L'Orientale), Claudia Gargiulo (Municipality of Naples), Francesco Izzo (University Federico II), Benedetta Parenti (University L'Orientale) and Paola Sabadin (Municipality of Naples). The Observatory operates in synergy with the structure of the municipal administration and also benefits from the scientific collaboration of SVIMEZ.
Svimez: investment in the city totalling 3.9 billion
Funding from other sources will be added to the implementation of these projects: 3.9 billion is the total amount of investments to be made between 2021 and 2026. These are the figures estimated by Svimez, which also estimates an impact of 1.9 billion on GDP, equal to about 7 per cent of the city's GDP, and an impact of about 8,000 jobs, i.e. 3.4 per cent of the employment stock.
Baretta: 'The city is back on track'
.The city's budget councillor, Pierpaolo Baretta, comments: 'With the Pnrr we started walking _ he says _ after three years we see the results. A billion interventions at a good level of realisation. It is important that they fall on different areas of the city and in different sectors'.
The floor pillars
.The billion managed by the municipality finances four missions: school, education and research, as well as innovation, competitiveness, culture and tourism, and green revolution and ecological transition, cohesion and inclusion. The project with the highest Pnrr funding is the purchase of 296 electric buses for local public transport: just over 144 million. . The area with the most funds (16 projects, EUR 413.4m) is transport and soft mobility. 77% of the resources are concentrated in the four municipalities in the periphery, each with about 100,000 inhabitants. Each municipality is allocated at least one school project.
