Poland: 15-year-old kills one person and injures two others at a primary school
It happened this morning. Prime Minister Donald Tusk has called an urgent meeting for 1 pm to tackle the issue of violence in schools
Another incident of violence has occurred in Poland, where this morning a 15-year-old boy killed a woman and injured two other people at a primary school. The police have reported that the 15-year-old is a former pupil of the school. The attack is believed to have taken place at around 9 am, when the boy entered the school armed with a knife and attacked three members of staff. Among them, the 37-year-old caretaker died, despite attempts to resuscitate her. The attacker was subdued by the headteacher and then arrested by the police.
The incident – which took place in the village of Leszczydół-Nowiny, near Wyszków – follows another attack carried out by a student yesterday, Wednesday 7 October. The circumstances of the attack are very similar: the 19-year-old injured seven people with a knife inside a Polish vocational college and was arrested. Furthermore, on the same day, in Sierpc, another alleged attack by a 17-year-old student was foiled. Two knives were found in his rucksack.
In light of recent events, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk has called an urgent meeting for 1 pm with the Ministers for the Interior, Digitalisation, Education and Health, as well as the coordinator of the special services and the Chief of Police. The meeting, explains Government spokesperson Adam Szłapka, will focus on acts of violence in schools.
The attack in Pescara
In addition to the incidents that took place in Polish schools, it emerged today – from the newspaper *Il Centro* – that last Friday a 16-year-old boy was reportedly attacked by a group of two or three pupils during a physical education lesson. The incident took place at a secondary school in the Teramo area. The 16-year-old suffered a fractured cheekbone and the alleged perpetrator has been suspended for fifteen days. The school where the assault took place has for some time been running initiatives to prevent and tackle bullying and cyberbullying, as well as organising meetings with the Carabinieri on the topics of the rule of law and the prevention of violence.
