.The penal code punishes the abandonment of animals. "Let us recall," explains Chief Commissioner Santoro, "that Article 727 of the criminal code provides for anyone who abandons pets to be imprisoned for up to one year or fined between one thousand and ten thousand euro. The same penalty for anyone who mistreats animals".
