Online gaming: Polymarket withdraws its application for interim relief against the blocking of its site in Italia
The company has withdrawn its application for interim relief but is continuing with its appeal on the merits against the Adm order which imposed the freeze on 10 July
Polymarket has backed down in the administrative dispute over the blocking of its website in Italia. The prediction market platform has withdrawn its application for an interim injunction to suspend the order by which the Customs and Monopolies Agency (ADM) had blocked access to the site throughout Italy on 10 July.
The withdrawal was filed on 19 August 2026 in the case files of the proceedings pending before the Lazio Regional Administrative Court. The news was reported by Agipronews, which consulted the Administrative Court’s case file.
Upon the filing of the statement, the application for a provisional suspension of the effects of the contested measure would lapse, whilst Polymarket would retain the option to pursue its appeal on the merits against Adm’s decision.
The previous rejection
This move comes two weeks after the Lazio Regional Administrative Court had already examined and rejected an initial urgent application for a stay of proceedings submitted by the platform. The judge had ruled that the matter required further consideration by a panel of judges, finding that the conditions for an immediate stay of proceedings by the President of the Fourth Ter Section alone were not met. It should be noted that the Court had not ruled on the legality of Adm’s measure, but had merely deferred its assessment due to the lack of the requirement of extreme urgency.
The hearing had therefore been scheduled for 25 August 2026, the date on which the panel was due to examine the application for interim relief. Following the withdrawal filed on 19 August, the timing of the decision will now depend on the subsequent scheduling of the proceedings on the merits.
