Pope Leo: let us persevere in asking for the gift of peace for the whole world
The Pontiff pointed out that truth is often obscured by fake news
Key points
"We persevere in asking for the gift of peace for the whole world". This was underlined by Pope Leo XIV, addressing the faithful and pilgrims gathered in St. Peter's Square for the recitation of the Regina Coeli, on the occasion of Easter Monday, from the window of the Study of the Vatican Apostolic Palace. The Regina Coeli is the Marian prayer that replaces the Angelus during this liturgical season. The Pontiff thanked "those who, in these days, have sent me expressions of good wishes for Holy Easter. I am especially grateful for the prayers".
Important to give hope
"It is important that this Gospel especially reaches those who are oppressed by wickedness, which corrupts history and confounds consciences. I am thinking of peoples tormented by war, of Christians persecuted for their faith, of children deprived of education. Proclaiming Christ's Easter in word and deed means giving new voice to hope, otherwise suffocated in the hands of the violent. When the Good News is proclaimed in the world, it illuminates every shadow, in every age," said Pope Leo XIV.
The truth is often obscured by fake news
The Pope, in the Regina Coeli, emphasised the contrast between Christian witness and the honesty of human communication. "Often, in fact, the telling of the truth is obscured by fake news, as we say today, that is, by lies, allusions and baseless accusations. In the face of such obstacles, however, the truth does not remain hidden, on the contrary: it comes towards us, alive and radiant, illuminating the thickest darkness," the Pontiff said. Jesus himself "thus is the good news to witness to in the world: the Lord's Passover is our Passover, the Passover of humanity, because this man, who died for us, is the Son of God, who gave his life for us," Pope Leo concluded.
