Post Office, 9,000 passports issued. From 2025 also identity cards and health tickets

The launch of the issuance of passports at thepost offices led the group led by Matteo Del Fante to exceed the quota of 9,000 documents issued in just a few months, in response to requests made at the 300 offices where the service was activated.

The company used the months after the summer to refine the procedures and be ready to extend the initiative to a further 2,300 offices, including branches in 32 provincial capitals, from December.

A large-scale extension that was initially envisaged for mid-October, but which is now finally on the launching pad. From next week another important novelty is expected: the extension to 4 thousand offices that are part of the Polis project, dedicated to municipalities under 15 thousand inhabitants, of the relaunch of registry certificates. This service is currently available at 587 offices in the smallest municipalities. Looking ahead, the group of addresses is preparing to make other important leaps.

Work is also underway to start issuing electronic identity cards at post offices in 2025: some technical and regulatory difficulties need to be overcome before the initiative can be launched. And another interesting service for citizens is planned to be launched next year: the possibility of paying health tickets at the counter.

Returning to passports, in the month of September alone, about 1,000 were requested in the 12 post offices providing the service in the capital. Of those issued, about 4,500 were issued in 93 post offices located in large cities, such as Bologna, Verona, Cagliari and Rome. The rest is Passastato issued in 212 municipalities with less than 15 thousand inhabitants. Of the 9,000 issued, 60 per cent were delivered to homes. The delivery time, with respect to the time of application, fluctuates between 15 and 30 days.
