Florida: private jet crashes: nine dead
In the late morning of 1 November 2026, the pilot of a private jet in Florida informed air traffic controllers that his aircraft was experiencing moderate turbulence and some rainfall. Shortly afterwards, the situation deteriorated rapidly and the aircraft crashed to the ground at a speed of 6,000 metres per minute (20,000 feet) in a residential area in Florida, killing all nine people on board.
According to data from Flightradar24, the Learjet 60 had been flying for around two hours before beginning its rapid descent at approximately 13:48 local time. The aircraft had taken off from Austin-Bergstrom in Texas and was heading for North Eleuthera Airport in the Bahamas.
The pilot suddenly shouted: “Mayday!”, screaming that the aircraft was plummeting at 8,000 feet per minute (2,500 metres). “We’re in an excessive speed situation, descending at 20,000 feet per minute!” shouted the pilot, according to an audio recording published online by Liveatc.net. “We’re going to crash into the ground!” he shouted dramatically, adding “game over” just before the crash. According to Flightradar24, the aircraft’s vertical speed eventually exceeded 32,000 feet per minute.
The plane crashed near Greenacres, Florida, in West Palm Beach.
The US Transport Secretary, Sean Duffy, stated in a post on X that footage from a car’s dashcam showed an almost vertical nosedive before the crash and explosion on a motorway.
