Prologis has announced the start of the redevelopment of a former carpentry building, located in Via di Tor Cervara, Rome, and recently acquired by the company. The building, named 'Tor Cervara DC1', is part of the company's long-term strategy to reinforce its presence in the Rome area, where it currently owns 28 state-of-the-art buildings, totalling 290,000 square metres, entirely leased to first-class clients.
The building covers an area of about 10 thousand square metres on a land area of about 35 thousand square metres and includes roads, car parks and green areas. The project is designed to obtain Leed Gold certification. The investment value is approximately 20 million.
By the end of 2024, Prologis has reached an installed capacity from renewable sources of 12 megawatts in Italy. The goal is to reach 1 Gw of photovoltaic power generation and storage capacity globally by the end of the year and to achieve zero net CO2 emissions along the entire value chain by 2040.
The logistics platform, which will be built with environmentally friendly concrete, will be equipped with advanced technologies such as high-efficiency heat pumps and a BMS (Building Management System) for intelligent energy use.
In addition to the warehousing area, the building will include 750 square metres of office and communal space designed for people's well-being. Outside, the facility will have ample parking space and 12 charging stations for electric vehicles to support the electrification of the fleet dedicated to mail and parcel delivery. The rainwater collection tank testifies to Prologis' focus on sustainable and responsible management of natural resources. The new logistics platform will offer customers a state-of-the-art space designed to maximise operational efficiency and minimise environmental impact.
"This new operation represents not only a new key investment for Prologis, but a real redevelopment for the city of Rome. Thanks to our project, it will be possible to give back to the citizens an area relatively close to the centre that had been in a degraded condition for a long time," said Sandro Innocenti, senior vice president and regional head Southern Europe of Prologis. "We confirm our commitment to offer state-of-the-art logistics solutions, with a strong focus on energy efficiency and the use of sustainable materials, continuing to strengthen our presence in an important strategic area.
