Proxigas turns 80: a book celebrating its history and its role in the country

On 16 June Proxigas, the leading national association for the gas sector in Italia, celebrates its first 80 years of activity. “A significant milestone for an association which, through the companies it represents and brings together, has supported the development, growth and modernisation of our country,” a statement emphasises.
To mark this historic milestone, Proxigas presents the special publication "Gas and the Italians", “a work that analyses the socio-cultural, economic and geopolitical impact of a resource that has united regions, communities and businesses, changed habits and lifestyles, and which today is once again called upon to face major challenges to ensure the country’s energy supply and development”.
In 1946, Anigas (the National Association of Gas Industry Operators) took its first steps in a nation wounded and defeated by the Second World War, in need of every available resource to first overcome the challenge of reconstruction and then that of rebirth and progress. “A victory achieved thanks, in part, to the tireless work of all those involved in the gas industry supply chain,” the Association emphasises.
“As Chairman of Proxigas, I consider it a privilege to be able to contribute to this journey. But above all, I consider it a responsibility to look ahead: because the challenges that lie ahead require the same spirit that guided those who, in 1946, decided to take a chance on the future,” says the President of Proxigas, Pier Lorenzo Dell’Orco.
The story of natural gas runs parallel to the history of Italia’s modernisation. The discovery of gas fields in the Po Valley by Agip and the strategic vision of Enrico Mattei fuelled Italia’s “economic miracle”.
