The Pulizter 2025 honours once again honoured Donald Trump's hated media: the New York Times won four and theNew Yorker three in this year's edition, which shone a spotlight on issues ranging from the crises in Sudan and Afghanistan, the fentanyl emergency and last summer's attempted assassination attempt against Trump, then the Republican candidate for the White House.
The awards were announced today at Columbia University.
The prestigious award for public service journalism went to ProPublica for the second year in a row: Kavitha Surana, Lizzie Presser, Cassandra Jaramillo and Stacy Kranitz were honoured for reporting on the plight of several pregnant women who died in states with strict anti-abortion laws.
The Reuters won a Pulizter for an investigation into opioid trafficking, the Wall Street Journal for shining a spotlight on Elon Musk, his influence on the conservative movement and his relationship with Vladimir Putin.
The Washington Post was awarded for its 'urgent and illuminating breaking news' on Trump's assassination attempt, but the Pulitzers also honoured Anna Telnaes, the cartoonist who left the paper after one of her editorial cartoons of tech bosses - among them the paper's owner Jeff Bezos - bowing before the new president was censored.
