‘Rottamazione quinquies’: from direct debit to ContiTu, a range of payment options
Direct debit requires prior confirmation 10 days in advance
Rottamazione quinquies, direct debit with prior confirmation. The 31 July is the deadline for payment of the first or only instalment relating to the ‘Rottamazione quinquies’ scheme. Direct debit from your current account is the most convenient way to avoid missing payments, but it does not exempt the taxpayer from carrying out periodic checks. At each bi-monthly deadline, it is in fact advisable to check that the instalment has actually been debited from your current account, so as to promptly identify any anomalies or outstanding payments. For the 31 July deadline, however, the service is only available to taxpayers who have completed the activation procedure in good time and received the relevant confirmation by 17 July.
Setting up direct debit
However, anyone who was unable to set up direct debit for the first payment is not prevented from using this service in future. The service can be requested at any time via the secure area on the Revenue Agency – Collection portal, by providing the IBAN of the current account from which the payments are to be debited. In order for the direct debit to be processed for the instalment due, confirmation must be received at least ten working days before the payment is due. Given the time required to process the application, it is advisable to allow for a further safety margin beyond the ten-day deadline. Once the direct debit procedure has been finalised, the Revenue Agency – Collection will notify you by email that the direct debit has been authorised.
Other channels
For those who do not use direct debit, there are numerous alternative payment channels available. The pagoPA forms, attached to the notification of amounts due, can be paid via online banking, at banks, post offices, betting shops, tobacconists and other operators participating in the pagoPA network, as well as via the Equiclick app, the web portal or at the counters of the Revenue Agency – Collection Department.
The “ContiTu” service, available on the Ader website, allows taxpayers to choose which tax demands or notices included in the notification they actually wish to settle. This makes it possible to recalculate the amount due and obtain new payment forms covering only those liabilities that the taxpayer wishes to retain within the simplified procedure.
Tolerance and Decadence
Managing deadlines is particularly important in light of the rules governing continued membership of the ‘rottamazione quinquies’ scheme. The favourable settlement ceases to apply in the event of non-payment or insufficient payment of the single instalment or the final instalment of the plan, or following the non-payment of two instalments, even if not consecutive. The five-day grace period applies exclusively to the single instalment and the final instalment.
