Rai, the choice of financial advisor for the Real Estate Plan is on track
In contention are Kpmg and Lazard. Possible decision on the appointment at next week's board meeting
Key points
The choice for the advisor that will give practical shape to Rai's real estate plan and, in particular, the sale of the planned assets, is in the final stages. According to the Sole 24 Ore, Kpmg and Lazard are in pole position for the appointment. And the decision could be made official as early as next week's board meeting.
For a Rai that, on the 'editorial' side, is experiencing an (umpteenth) moment of turmoil linked to the Petrecca case and the controversy over the renouncement of Andrea Pucci as co-host of the third evening of Sanremo, there is another that, on the corporate side, sees the closing of the circle on a crucial step approaching. The advisor for the Real Estate Plan will in fact have the task of managing one of the most impressive asset reorganisation operations in the company's history, a fundamental step for the transformation of Rai into a modern 'Digital Media Company', according to the statements made by the top management when the Plan was approved.
Meeting with trade unions
On the subject, the trade unions Slc Cgil, Fistel Cisl, Uilcom Uil, Fnc Ugl, Consal Libersind, Snater, Adrai (for Rai managers) and Usigrai and Unirai (for Rai journalists) met with Rai's general manager, Roberto Sergio, on 2 February. There the company, reads a Slc CGIL statement, 'reconfirmed its willingness to continue with the full implementation of the Industrial Plan, based on the two pillars of the Real Estate Plan and the Industrial and Production Plan, with the aim of ensuring sustainability, efficiency, and the definitive transition of Rai towards a modern Media Company'.
The continuation of the note then highlights how the public TV station has taken stock of the most sensitive dossiers of this Plan, which, together with the Industrial Plan, is among the main activities followed by the Rai CEO and his staff. These dossiers include Milan, Rome, and some regional offices earmarked for alienation.
The Milan case
Milan is the emblematic case. Rai has confirmed that there will be no 'bridge' move between Corso Sempione and Via Mecenate: you will stay where you are until the new production centre at MiCo is ready. Here, according to Sole 24 Ore, Rai's goal would be to arrive by 2032 with four active studios in operation and, in addition, a multifunctional studio for radio. The construction - costing an estimated 120 million - is to be paid for by Fiera Milano; Rai will enter with a 27-year lease of 5.9 million a year. This new hub will make it possible to overcome the current inefficient fragmentation between the capital's venues, bringing the entire Milanese production under one roof.
