Moments of fear, this morning at around 8.30 a.m., in Trento Roncafort, due to a collision between some freight wagons loaded with cellulose and a regional train with 45 passengers on board. The dynamics, warns Rfi (Fs group), are being ascertained. According to initial information, during manoeuvring operations, the freight wagons allegedly broke away from the rest of the convoy, causing a collision with the regional train, which was stopped at the traffic lights, and a carriage to come off the track. The final toll of the accident is said to be three slightly injured. Traffic on the Brenner line is currently blocked.

The possible causes

.

According to Tgr Trento 'from the first information, it seems that it was the goods train that moved and collided with the passenger convoy'. According to the Corriere del Trentino, which cites sources from the Trento Fire Brigade, 'the goods train incredibly started up independently from the Interporto station. The passenger train was stationary, there was a major impact'. According to this reconstruction, it is therefore possible that the freight train was immobilised, and it would have set off independently, travelling along the tracks in the direction of the main station. In contrast, the passenger train was travelling in the direction of the Brenner Pass. The exact circumstances of the collision are still being investigated. It all happened in Trento Nord, at the height of Via Vittime delle Foibe. The railway traffic is currently blocked and it is reported that three people were injured. They are said to be the driver and two passengers who were thrown off balance by the collision. Fortunately, none of the people involved is in life-threatening danger.

The doctors gave them first aid and they were all later transferred to the Santa Chiara hospital in Trento for checks. The impact was not violent, but it was enough to cause the regional train bound for Bolzano to veer off the track, of which the first bogie can be seen on the television images. In addition to the Polfer (railway police), medical assistance, the fire brigade and the Civil Defence were also on the scene. The 45 people on board the regional train were taken off the train and put on another train.

Effects on circulation

.

At the moment, traffic is suspended between Mezzocorona and Trento and a rescue wagon has already been dispatched. High-speed and regional trains may experience delays. The high-speed train most affected by the traffic stoppage is the Frecciarossa 9721 Bolzano (8.45)-Milano Centrale (11.55), which is cancelled today.
