Trains at a standstill in August due to planned structural enhancement work on the high-speed network. Both Trenitalia and Italo have scheduled the timetables of several routes with longer journey times. The routes most affected are the Turin-Milan-Venice line, the Milan-Bologna line and the Rome-Florence Direttissima line. Travel time increases of up to two hours are also planned on the Milan-Bologna line from 12 to 18 August, with the line partially interrupted.
Traffic changes for infrastructure works will affect Trenitalia's long-distance trains. Customers of the Frecce trains affected by the changes have been informed of the variations through smart caring with about 17,000 e-mails and 800 text messages sent. In the event of delays of more than 60' or cancellations/limitations, customers have been informed of the possibility of rescheduling their journey or abandoning it, obtaining a full refund of the ticket purchased. From 26 July and until 1 September, in the stations where the greatest flows are expected, an increase in buses to be used as replacement services, an increase in assistance personnel and kit/water supplies to be provided to customers in abnormal service situations have been planned. All Trenitalia channels are updated with the timetable changes. More information is available in the Works and Service Changes section of the website, on the Trenitalia app, on the free toll-free number 800 89 20 21, as well as at ticket offices and self-service counters and at assistance desks in railway stations. The smart caring service on the Trenitalia app is also active.
The affected sections
.The lines most affected will be the Turin-Milan-Venice line, the high-speed Milan-Bologna line and the Rome-Florence line. Interruptions due to the works will also be expected on the Alpine crossings, which will mainly affect the cross-border connections.
The MILAN-BOLOGNA LINE: From 12 to 18 August, the Milan-Bologna HS line will be partially disrupted with an increase in journey times of up to 120', while from 19 to 25, it will be affected by speed reductions. The changes will mainly affect the Frecciarossa trains on the Turin-Milan-Rome-Naples-Salerno route with journey lengthenings and cancellations. Three Intercity and Intercity Notte trains on the Milan/Florence-Rome/Syracuse routes and vice versa will instead be diverted onto the conventional line between Orvieto and Chiusi.
LA DIRETTISSIMA FLORENCE-ROME: From 12 to 23 August 2024 the Direttissima Florence-Rome line will be interrupted on the Chiusi-Orvieto section for the waterproofing of the Paglia viaduct, while from 24 to 25 August it will be affected by speed reductions. The Frecce and Intercity services will be subject to timetable changes, cancellations or route deviations with a lengthening of travel times. From 19 to 23 August, interruptions on the Direttissima line and slowdowns on the HS Milan-Bologna line will lead to increases in journey times of up to 80' (up to 20' only for trains travelling on the HS Milan-Bologna line to the Adriatica). On 24 and 25 August, there will be delays on the Direttissima line of between 5' and 60' depending on the train.
