Attack on Ranucci, four arrests: a bomb ordered by someone else
Three people in prison and one under house arrest for possession of explosives and causing damage, with the aggravating circumstance of using mafia-style methods
The Carabinieri have arrested the alleged perpetrators of the bomb attack against Sigfrido Ranucci. The Carabinieri have carried out four pre-trial detention orders for possession of explosives and criminal damage, with the aggravating circumstance of mafia-style methods.
Three people have been remanded in custody, and one is under house arrest. The arrests were carried out in the early hours of the morning in the provinces of Naples and Avellino by the Carabinieri of the Provincial Command in Rome, assisted by officers from the relevant Provincial Commands. The four individuals are strongly suspected, on various counts, of the offences of possession, carrying in a public place and use of an explosive device, as well as threats and criminal damage, aggravated by the fact that they acted as a group of more than five people and in a mafia-style manner.
The gang is believed to have acted on specific instructions from third parties, as yet unidentified, as a ‘favour’ and in return for a payment of ‘thousands of euros’. The instigators went to great lengths to ensure support for the alleged perpetrators, providing funds, dedicated mobile phone SIM cards, legal assistance and planning their possible escape abroad. The suspects attempted on several occasions to obstruct the investigation by conducting sweeps for bugging devices, destroying SIM cards and agreeing on a code of silence to conceal their involvement and protect the instigators.
The attack took place on the evening of 16 October 2025, in Pomezia, near Rome: a bomb was detonated in front of the gate of the home of the journalist, destroying his two cars parked on the street and damaging the boundary wall. Investigations are continuing to uncover the identity of those behind the attack.
There are other suspects in the investigation being conducted by the Rome District Anti-Mafia Directorate, as a result of which numerous searches have been carried out at the premises of individuals who may have supplied the explosives and provided logistical support to the attack squad.
