The Ranucci case: the review hearing for Lavitola is on 7 September
The presenter of *Report* will therefore be heard as a person with knowledge of the facts from 7 September onwards
The hearing before the Review Court for Valter Lavitola, who is accused of instigating the attack on Sigfrido Ranucci, has been scheduled for 7 September. At that hearing – as his defence lawyers announced in recent days – the former publisher and businessman is expected to make a voluntary statement.
Following the appeal lodged by lawyers Sergio and Arturo Cola, the Review Court is required to rule on the need for precautionary measures and on the alleged aggravating circumstance of the use of mafia methods.
The questioning of those arrested
Also today, a date could be set for the questioning before the public prosecutor requested by the defence lawyers of the four men arrested on 30 June on charges of being the perpetrators of the attack. It is likely to take longer, however, for the investigators to summon Ranucci himself to question him as a person with knowledge of the facts.
Gomes Tavares may have left Cameroon
Meanwhile, Gomes Clesio Tavares – accused of being, in collusion with Valter Lavitola, the instigator of the attack on Sigfrido Ranucci – may already have left Cameroon. According to reports by Agi, he may already be in another African country. This, according to the investigators, could complicate the process of any extradition requested in recent days by the Rome Public Prosecutor’s Office. The Carabinieri from the Investigative Unit, coordinated by Public Prosecutor Edoardo De Santis, are on Gomes’s trail.
