A week after the sgombero del Leoncavallo, the announcement that could give it a new home is about to arrive. The City of Milan has approved the guidelines (preparatory to the publication of the call for bids) to sell a building it owns in via San Dionigi, Porto di Mare area, in the southern suburbs of the city. An area for which the Mamme antifasciste del Leoncavallo association had already presented an expression of interest last March, in an attempt to regularise the position of the historic social centre, which, however, in the meantime has been vacated from Via Watteau, where it had been standing for over 30 years.
The Municipality's announcement
.Specifically, the municipality's call for tenders will provide for the transfer of the building's surface right for a maximum of 90 years. A wide range of organisations will be able to participate, from voluntary organisations, to associations, social enterprises and cooperatives, third sector organisations, and sports clubs. Those who decide to participate will have to present a project with public interest objectives and a business plan, with the planned redevelopment work. In fact, the buildings are in very poor condition and need renovation and reclamation work (about 300,000 euro for asbestos and connection to the sewerage system alone). The Foundation set up in 2004 by Leoncavallo will most likely take part in the call for bids, although the economic aspect will have to be understood, because substantial investments are planned for the renovation of the building and this may pose a problem.
The protest of the League and FdI
.After the publication of the document, however, comes the protest of the League and FdI, which announce complaints to the Prosecutor's Office and the Court of Auditors on the entrusting of a public space to Leonka. 'It is an unacceptable indecency,' explain the party's deputy secretary Silvia Sardone and the secretary of the League in Milan Samuele Piscina, 'We are ready to file a complaint with the Prosecutor's Office and the Court of Auditors. Fratelli d'Italia deputy Riccardo De Corato also announces a complaint to the Public Prosecutor's Office and the Court of Auditors 'for yet another disgrace to the city and the Milanese'.
National procession on 2 September
While waiting to discuss the participation in the call, the militants of the historic social centre are preparing for the public assembly of 2 September, in preparation for the national demonstration called for the 6th against the eviction, for which 'many adhesions' have already arrived, with an initial estimate of around 70,000 people attending
