Ten million 500 thousand: this is the number of Italian women who are experiencing or will experience the menopause in the near future. A population equivalent to that of the whole of Belgium. A phenomenon, too often experienced as a taboo, which is beginning to attract the attention of the cosmetics world. As in the case of Estée Lauder who will be present at the event 'Reborn in Menopause: a New Beginning' with the short film 'Because of my age' starring former top model Paulina Porizkova.

The event is the result of an initiative by gynaecologist Dr Raffaela Di Pace, building on the success of the second edition of the scientific conference 'Evolution in Menopause' - bringing together more than 150 gynaecologists and national experts.

'I have spent years learning and treating menopausal women,' the doctor recounts. 'I have seen medicine make great strides, I have witnessed research that completely overturns the approach to this phase of life. But then I would leave the hospital and meet women who still experienced the menopause as a condemnation, who were ashamed of their symptoms, who felt 'finished' at 50. I realised that it was no longer enough to train doctors. It was time to speak directly to them, to the real protagonists of this story'.

The event sees the participation of Diana De Marchi, chairwoman of the Equal Opportunities Commission of the Municipality of Milan; Martina Semenzato, chairwoman of the bicameral Commission of Enquiry on Femicide and creator of the interparliamentary commission dealing with the problems of the menopause, and the testimonies of women who have made the menopause their springboard towards new evolutionary projects. Among the topics covered are hormonal and gynaecological health; movement and longevity; holistic facial well-being; ssexology; cimage care and inclusive make-up; as well as topics related to finance.

The finale will be entrusted to three testimonies: Monica Re (ceo Studio Re Media Relations and writer), Gabriella Scapicchio (first mayor of the metropolitan city of Rome) and Carmen Salomone (who will tell how to cope with the menopause after an illness).

'The menopause is not a pathology to be hidden, but a natural transition that deserves correct scientific information and a positive narrative,' Dr Di Pace concludes. 'It is time to talk about it openly, with medical expertise and female pride. It is time for every woman to know that her best years may still be ahead of her'.

The appointment is in Milan on 27 September from 2.30 pm to 7 pm at the Hotel dei Cavalieri Duomo in Piazza Giuseppe Missori. Admission is free with compulsory booking (eventi@webevents4.com). Also available in streaming.
