The Mercedes-Benz plant in Bremen marks a new chapter in the brand's electrification strategy with the start of production of the new electric GLC. Unveiled as a world premiere last September, the zero-emission SUV has already broken all records, recording more orders in the first quarter of this year than any other electric model in the history of the Star. The vehicle, the centrepiece of the largest product offensive ever launched by Mercedes-Benz, is being assembled in Hall 9, the largest facility at the Bremen site, which has been in operation in three shifts for more than ten years.
The particularity of the Bremen line lies in its flexibility: the electric GLC is built on the same assembly line as the thermal, hybrid and EQE versions. Under the body, the SUV boasts cutting-edge technology. Thanks to the 800-volt architecture and the batteries supplied by the Accumotive site in Kamenz, the GLC 400 4MATIC guarantees a range of up to 715 km with exceptionally fast recharging times: ten minutes is all it takes to recover 305 km. The production network also involves the plants in Sebeș, Romania, for the drive units, and Hamburg for the electric axles. With this launch, Bremen confirms itself as a centre of excellence and pioneer of global electric mobility for the Mercedes-Benz Group.
