After the clash in the majority on the return of the redditometer, with Fratelli d'Italia on one side and Forza Italia and Lega on the other, Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni announces: "Today I met the vice-minister Leo, we discussed the contents" of the ministerial decree on the redditometer and "we came to the conclusion that it is better to suspend" the measure "pending further investigation". Thus Giorgia Meloni in a video released on social media. "No 'big brother tax' will ever be introduced by this government," the prime minister had written in a Facebook post in the morning. "I have always been against invasive mechanisms of redditometer applied to ordinary people."

Meloni: fight against big tax evaders and fake nobodies with Suvs

"Our objective is and remains that of combating large-scale evasion and the unacceptable phenomenon, for example, of those who pretend to have no property but drive around with a SUV, or go on holiday with a yacht, without, however, harassing ordinary people with invasive regulations," added Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni in the video on social media in which she announced the suspension of the decree on the redditometer.

Government sources: Leo decree postponed, another revision will come

With the 'stand by' of the ministerial decree signed by Maurizio Leo, technically 'the application' of the measure 'concerning the synthetic determination of income is deferred, pending a subsequent regulatory measure revising the institution'. This was clarified by government sources

Ok of the Chamber to Lega Lega's odg on passing the income meter

The Chamber of Deputies gave the go-ahead to the League's agenda to the superbonus decree calling for 'clarifying the scope of the ministerial decree' published in the Gazzetta 'confirming the overcoming of the redditometer'. The agenda received a favourable opinion from the government with rewording and was also signed by FdI. The part referring to the 'worrying media resonance around an old vision of the relationship between taxpayer and financial administration based on presumed assessments and circumstantial elements regardless of certain data' was expunged.

The clash in the majority

.

The new edition of the redditometer has created disarray in the majority. The news arrived with the Official Gazette (but the ministerial decree had been signed on 7 May), and it displaced the majority at the very same time that the Superbonus was being discussed in the Chamber of Deputies, another hard-to-resolve problem in the majority.

Tajani, good Meloni, on Friday I will propose abolishing the income meter

'The redditometer does not solve the problems of the fight against tax evasion, it is at odds with the philosophy we are realising of a friendly and non-oppressive tax authorities: on Friday in the Council of Ministers I will ask to revoke this measure that was born in the past, certainly not today. I appreciated the Prime Minister's words, and on Friday I will reiterate my and Forza Italia's position'. This was said by Deputy Prime Minister Antonio Tajani on the sidelines of a conference. 'It is old and outdated stuff' that must 'disappear from the Italian legislative system', he added.

Salvini: 'Redditometro? I hope it's a past that doesn't return'

'I hope it is a past that does not return'. So said the Minister of Infrastructure and Transport Matteo Salvini as a guest at Cna. 'I prefer,' continued the League leader, 'that the true turnovers are ascertained, not the alleged ones, the punishment of alleged wealth is not worthy of a country. The punishment of alleged wealth is not worthy of a civilised country: the more companies invoice, the more workers earn, the happier I am'.

Brakes, we're all aligned, old redditometer is not in government dna

"On the redditometer, the president of the Council has spoken, everyone has spoken. I believe that what Deputy Minister Leo wanted to say is quite clear. The League, I reiterate, is firmly opposed to the old redditometer, so, and I stress this, as invented by the Renzi government, and I have no doubt that we will go down this road'. The undersecretary for the Economy, Federico Freni, thus returned, when questioned at the Chamber on the sidelines of an Assonext conference on SMEs, to the issue of tax audits on expenses and income. "The government,' he added, 'will make its assessments. The lines on what we are for and what we are against seem clear to me. Just as it seems clear to me, as the President of the Council said, that this government does not really have, in its DNA, such a thing. We are all aligned on this and the League is certainly aligned'.

The taxman's lens, from medicines to horses

From medicines and visits, to utility bills via mortgage expenses or telephone bills, and even expenses for plants and flowers or to maintain a horse: there is everything among the items that the administration will be able to use to check the (presumed) income of taxpayers according to the new redditometer. Taxpayers will still be able to defend themselves. The analysis will start from 2016 income (it should cover income from 2018 onwards) and will take into account elements already in the tax register.
