Lazio Region closes 2025 with a surplus of 321.8 million
'A historic step in the path of regional public accounts', underlines the Lazio Region
The Lazio Regional Council, at the proposal of the Councillor for the Budget Giancarlo Righini, has approved the General Accounts for the financial year 2025, "marking a historic step in the process of consolidating the regional public accounts", the Region underlines in a note. For the first time after years characterised by structural deficits, the Lazio Region has recorded a positive administrative result of EUR 321.8 million as at 31 December 2025. "A goal that until recently seemed difficult to achieve and that today certifies the effectiveness of a strategic vision based on planning, rigour and vision," the note continues.
Debt Consolidation
Also decisive in this path was the completion of debt consolidation, made possible by the recent government provisions that cancelled the obligation to repay liquidity advances, producing a debt reduction of approximately EUR 13 billion for Lazio. Already in 2024, the results of the management had allowed for the early extinction of important deficit recovery plans, as well as the allocation of significant resources for the health service and for covering the stock of peremptions. A set of measures that further strengthened the financial solidity of the institution.
Righini: historical result
"The result achieved with the 2025 Accounts represents a historic turning point for the Lazio Region," declared the President of the Region Francesco Rocca and the Councillor for the Budget, Righini. "We have definitively closed a long season of financial imbalances, restoring credibility and planning capacity to the Region. Today we can look to the future with solid foundations, allocating concrete resources to investments and the development of the territories, without resorting to new debt. This is the result of serious, responsible work, consistent with the commitments undertaken with the citizens'.
Extraordinary programme for regional cohesion
Councillor Righini also wished to express his thanks to the General Accounting Department for the decisive contribution and professionalism shown in achieving this important goal. In this perspective, the 'Extraordinary Programme for Regional Cohesion' 2026-2030, envisaged by the Regional Stability Law 2026, is also part of the plan, for a total value of 475 million euro, of which a first tranche can already be activated from 2026 thanks to the approval of the accounts.
Report by the Deadline
"The adoption of the report within the deadline of 30 April," continued the Region's note, "also confirms the Region's newfound administrative efficiency. The data certify not only the overcoming of the emergency phase, but above all the beginning of a new season based on investments, development and attention to the needs of the community. The Lazio Region is thus consolidating a virtuous path that restores confidence in the institutions and opens up new opportunities for growth for the entire territory'.
