Renault Group will reduce battery costs by 20 per cent with Ampere

The French manufacturer will also focus on batteries with LFP technology

Ampere, the Renault Group's division dedicated to electric solutions, announced a new strategic plan that aims to reduce the cost of batteries for its vehicles by 20 per cent from 2026.
The French brand is also working on the possibility of integrating LFP (lithium iron phosphate) technology alongside its current NCM (nickel cobalt manganese) batteries. This decision was taken following significant advances in LFP technology in recent years and the development of the industry in Europe. LFP batteries, which consume less energy and are less expensive than NCMs, will be instrumental in making electric vehicles more accessible, thus encouraging more drivers to switch to electric vehicles.

Ampere is working closely with its two suppliers LG Energy Solution and CATL to implement its plan. The three companies expect the new LFP batteries to be available from early 2026, and then to be adopted in various Renault and Alpine brands. In addition, the Ampere and LG Energy Solution teams are also working on the development of 'Cell-to-Pack' technology for pouch batteries, which will improve vehicle autonomy and help further reduce battery costs. In fact, thanks to the integration of LFP and Cell-to-Pack technologies, Ampere expects to reduce battery costs in its vehicles by around 20 per cent from the beginning of 2026.Ampere's strategic plan envisages significant transformations in record time, supporting the company's commitment to "aggressively reduce vehicle costs and democratise electric mobility in Europe". And the new batteries will be 'made in France, since they will be assembled at Ampere ElectriCity, in the battery department of the Douai plant.
