The 30-year-old Chinese citizen who was injured in a shootout with police on 1 February at around 3pm in Piazza Mistral in the Rogoredo area of Milan died today in Niguarda hospital, where he was hospitalised in serious condition. He had suffered gunshot wounds to the head and arm.
The police had intervened after the 30-year-old man had assaulted a security guard and stolen his weapon. At the sight of the police car, the man had fired several shots at the car. At that point, the officers fired back, hitting him.
The facts of 2 February 2026
he hit a vigilante in the head with a stick, then stole his gun and fled. He then fired at least three shots at a police car that intercepted him only to be shot by the officers who returned fire and is now fighting between life and death in hospital. It was the crazy afternoon of 2 February 2026 of a 30-year-old Chinese man, the protagonist of another police-involved shooting in Milan's Rogoredo district in less than a week.
Around 2.30 p.m., the vigilante, aged about 50, was on his way to work on foot when in Via Caviglia, a southern part of the city not far from Piazzale Corvetto, he was attacked by a man who hit him with a stick and then stole his gun, a Walther P99. He immediately called 112, explaining that 'an almond-eyed man' had robbed him, and several squad cars arrived in the area. The search was successful around 3.15 p.m., when the thief came across the armoured Land Cruiser of the Uopi, the specialised first intervention units of the State Police, in via Cassinis, just before piazza Mistral, even further out in the suburbs not far from Rogoredo station. At the sight of the police he fired, with at least three shots remaining in the armoured body of the off-road vehicle, without hitting the officers who returned fire.
Wounded in the head and one arm, the 30-year-old man was taken in very serious condition to Niguarda hospital, where he is in a reserved prognosis. The area has been cordoned off for the forensic police and the Milan Public Prosecutor's Office is acquiring all the video footage from the cameras in the area and hearing witnesses to reconstruct the dynamics of the shooting. The investigations with a view to opening a file have been ordered by Prosecutor Simona Ferraiuolo and Chief Prosecutor Marcello Viola. Only last Monday there had been another gunfight, again in the troubled southern suburb of Milan, where the Santa Giulia Arena, which will host the Milan Cortina Olympics ice hockey tournament, is also located.
