Italy brings home its first trophy at Roland Garros: Sara Errani and Andrea Vavassori won 6-4, 6-2 against Americans Taylor Townsend and Evan King on Court Philippe Chatrier, taking the mixed doubles crown.
This is the second Grand Slam trophy for them in mixed doubles, after last year's Us Open, where they also defeated Townsend and her former long-time partner Donald Young.
The Italian pair were tested early in the first set, but saved two breakpoints to secure a tight 1-1 lead before getting the decisive break and taking a 4-3 lead when Townsend sent a forehand out of bounds.
Errani and Vavassori turned up the intensity to overwhelm their opponents, breaking serve twice in the second set before Townsend hit a volley to give the third seed a dominant victory.
The American pair appeared disunited throughout the match and accumulated 25 unforced errors, almost three times as many as Errani and Vavassori's nine.
