The new Rome-Vienna-Munich Nightjet train starts. The connection is operated through a cooperation between Trenitalia (Fs group) and the Austrian railway company Öbb. The Nightjet of the latest generation consists of two sections, one to and from Vienna and the other to and from Munich, of seven carriages each. It has a total capacity of 500 seats. It will be operational from Wednesday, 11 September.
The cost of tickets
.Tickets for Nightjet connections are available from €34.90 per person and route in a carriage with seats, from €54.90 in a couchette carriage and from €99.90 in a sleeper carriage. They can be purchased on the Trenitalia.com website, Trenitalia App, station ticket offices and self-service.
The timetable
.It will depart daily from Roma Tiburtina at 17:25, arrive in Vienna at 9:04 and in Munich at 9:22 the following day. In the opposite direction, the train will leave Munich at 20:10 and Vienna at 19:18. On board, passengers have a number of facilities at their disposal, including a minibar, free Wi-Fi with access to the ÖBB Railnet Night on-board portal, and a modern information system. The carriages are equipped with displays with various functions, such as light control or calls to the on-board staff, as well as video surveillance and electronic access systems to provide even more security on board.
The Nightjet 'is the real green deal, not like the ban on the endothermic engine from 2035, which instead is environmental and social suicide,' said Deputy Prime Minister and Transport Minister Matteo Salvini, who was present at the ribbon-cutting ceremony of the new train, along with, among others, the Austrian ambassador to Italy, Martin Eichtinger. "There is a renewed friendship and fellowship between Italy and Austria, which will perhaps travel better on the tracks than it does by road at the Brenner Pass," the minister added, emphasising: "I count on this being the beginning of a new path" between the two countries.
Salvini recalled that today he opened the work of the board of directors of the Stretto di Messina company. "What is the Rome-Vienna and Rome-Munich Nightjet I count on being able to extend southwards in 2032. The aim is to have a Palermo-Vienna Nightjet in a few years' time,' said the Transport Minister. ''Wanting is power'' taught Walt Disney,'' Salvini remarked, concluding that 'railways romantically take us back thirty years, but they are also business'.
