Revenue, on 1 December the Palermo conference hall will be named after Rosario Livatino
On Monday 1 December, the conference room of the regional directorate of the Agenzia delle Entrate in Via W. Konrad Roentgen in Palermo will be named after Rosario Livatino. Before entering the judiciary, the judge killed by the Mafia on 21 September 1990 had been deputy director of the Registry Office in Agrigento. The ceremony, which will begin at 10 a.m., will be attended by the Deputy Minister for the Economy and Finance, Maurizio Leo; the Deputy National Anti-Mafia and Anti-Terrorism Prosecutor, Nino Di Matteo; the Metropolitan Archbishop of Palermo, Corrado Lorefice; and the Director of the Revenue Agency, Vincenzo Carbone.
The experience at the Agrigento Registry Office
After graduating in law from the University of Palermo in 1975, Livatino was hired as deputy director at the Agrigento Registry Office. It was an experience of great professional and emotional intensity. When, in July 1978, he received the phonogram announcing the start of his career as a magistrate, Livatino expressed deep regret at having to leave the Office and his human environment.
The career in the judiciary and the assassination
In 1979 he was appointed deputy prosecutor at the Agrigento Court, where he carried out complex investigations into organised crime with rigour and balance, and in 1989 he became a criminal judge. On the morning of 21 September 1990, along the Agrigento-Caltanissetta state road, his car was rammed. Judge Livatino tried to walk away but was caught up by four hit men and killed. The perpetrators of the murder were brought to justice and sentenced. On 9 May 2021 Rosario Livatino was proclaimed Blessed.
