The sudden dismissal of Peter Morocco, the official charged by Donald Trump with dismantling the UsAid (United States Agency for International Development, i.e. the body responsible for international aid) agency, is causing a political earthquake within the administration and among supporters of the Trumpian MAGA (Make America Great Again) movement.

Morocco, a central figure in the reorganisation of US foreign aid, was removed last week by Secretary of State Marco Rubio after growing internal tensions. According to Politico, which reconstructed the affair with confidential sources, 'he is the first MAGA casualty from inside the White House'. Morocco was blocked from entering the State Department unannounced after a final meeting at the White House.

Administration sources speak of a contrast between his aggressive style and Rubio's more cautious approach, while Trump loyalists accuse the secretary of state of sabotaging the president's agenda.

Morocco has made no comment, but from the White House comes full recognition of his work: 'He has eliminated waste and defended the taxpayers,' said spokeswoman Anna Kelly. The case fuels tensions between the Republican leadership and the Trumpian base, which is increasingly wary of Rubio.
