Russia: von der Leyen and Rutte step up pressure on Moscow, with a view to further sanctions
(Il Sole 24 Ore Radiocor) - Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, speaking to the press following her meeting with NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte, stated that “pressure on Russia will be stepped up” and that she may impose further sanctions to this end. In this regard, speaking side by side with Rutte, she said, “The EU and NATO stand united”. This follows the Russian attack on Germany using bomb-laden drones in Leipzig: “It was an attack involving military equipment carried out as part of a Russian operation on European soil. We will not tolerate this. This intimidation will not work’. Rutte stated that he was in complete agreement with von der Leyen.
