Safer Internet Day: Windtre, one in four children do not recognise digital risks

One in 4 children in primary school does not recognise the risks associated with digital media and less than 1 in 2 (46%) is able to recognise a possible breach of privacy. These are just some of the findings from the impact assessment of Windtre's NeoConnessi digital education programme, which were presented today on Safer Internet Day at the headquarters of the Civita association in Rome.

The measurement of the effects of the programme's administration made it possible to verify the effectiveness of digital education: following the programme, 52% of the students claim to be aware of new digital dangers, and the percentage of children in the sample able to recognise a possible violation rises to 67% (+21 percentage points). An improvement also emerges in the awareness related to personal data: the proportion of students able to understand the risks associated with sharing sensitive information and publishing photos online by parents (sharenting) increases by 19 percentage points. The course also had a positive impact on understanding the phenomenon of cyberbullying (+12p.p.) and the ability to identify misleading content, such as deepfakes and fake news (+10p.p.).
