Saic Z7, the replica of the Porsche Taycan at the Beijing Salon
Chinese brands have not lost the habit of copying European models.
Bad habits die hard, like that of Chinese car brands blatantly copying European models. If in recent years the problem seemed almost solved, the Saic Z7 presented at the Beijing Motor Show made us doubt that we were looking at the Porsche Taycan saloon and Sport Turismo. Because in spite of the economic and industrial power of the Asian group, owner of the MG brand that has become a real commercial phenomenon in Europe, the images of the Z7 would make any expert in industrial property law cry out in scandal.
The replica Porche Taycan on sale for $32,000
Developed in collaboration with Huawei, the Saic Z7 is powered by two motors that discharge a power of about 590 horsepower to the ground, guaranteeing a sprint from 100 km/h covered in less than 3.5 seconds. All powered by a 100 kWh battery with 800 volt architecture, with a range of around 900 km by Chinese standards. If on the outside the 'control-C/control V' is bordering on the ridiculous, on board say goodbye to the Porsche style to make way for the all-touch typical of most Chinese cars, hence with lots of technology.
Price of the fake Taycan? 32.000 in China, compared to 134,000 for the original. Basically like buying a fake Rolex on the beach for 100 euros or in a shop for 20,000 euros. Both tell the time and to the unobservant eye they may look the same. It is a shame, however, that a car with interesting technical qualities on paper is debased by a completely cloned body.
