Salvini: Call for applications for rent support for separated parents to be launched in the autumn
The 60-million fund covers half the rent, up to 6,000 euros a year, for parents who do not have the family home allocated to them, subject to income limits and specific requirements.
“This autumn, the MIT will launch a scheme to help separated or divorced parents pay their rent. We must help people who work, not those who do not work or work illegally.” This was emphasised by the leader of the Lega, Matteo Salvini, during a video link-up with the UDC’s national conference.
The 2026 Budget
The measure was introduced by the 2026 Budget Act. The operational procedures and timetable for disbursement will be set out in a specific implementing decree, issued by the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport (MIT) in consultation with the Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF). It is estimated that applications will be able to be submitted online and the first payments are expected to be made by the end of 2026.
What does the legislation stipulate?
The Fund, with a total budget of 60 million euros spread over the three-year period 2026–2028 (20 million per year), aims to support separated or divorced parents with the payment of the rent for a new home. The amount covers 50 per cent of the rent, up to a maximum of 6,000 euros per year (equivalent to 500 euros per month). It is available to parents who are not the assigned occupant of the family home and who have dependent children up to the age of 21. At present, preliminary indications suggest an IRPEF income limit of up to 35,000 euros per annum, but the specific ISEE thresholds will be defined by the implementing decree. Applicants must have a valid tenancy agreement and be up to date with any maintenance payments. The bonus cannot be combined with other rent assistance schemes.
