Salvini evokes early vote, then slows down. Tensions in the majority
Amidst internal tensions and distancing between the League and allies, the government is trying to maintain stability as the debate on electoral law and key appointments draws nearer
Screws and distinguos now daily and identity issues resurfacing. The majority does not stop fibrillating with the Lega-Fi dualism being staged on more and more fronts. Fratelli d'Italia, for the moment, tries to play down and keep to the point, but the fact that the climate is starting to take a pre-electoral turn in the majority, with notebooks closed, is no longer denied by anyone. All the more so after the words of Lega Nord leader Matteo Salvini, who from the Trento Festival of Economics seemed to evoke the possibility of an early vote when he pointed out: 'We will vote in September, but it also depends on economic factors.
Reverse gear
Words on which he put the brakes on in the evening ('The goal is to arrive in 2027,' he points out) while the League specifies that it has been misinterpreted. But so be it. There is no shortage of those in majority circles who point out that the leader of the Lega Nord has made explicit a thought that is beginning to spread. The exit, it is said, would, in any case, have surprised the allies even if a direct intervention by the premier is excluded.
"The legislature will come to a natural end, I am absolutely convinced of that," Vice-Premier Antonio Tajani retorts narrowly. "The government must go ahead with seriousness as it has done up to now," also emphasises the Minister for Relations with Parliament, Luca Ciriani. Beyond its exegesis, however, it is an exit that gives the oppositions the right to go on the attack even after the tensions in the Senate on the energy motion. Tensions that remain in the League, which is also irritated - even if from Via Bellerio they are dismissing the issue - by the competition to the right put in place every day by General Vannacci.
The parties' reactions
Meanwhile, a series of identity flags of each party resurface. And so Forza Italia re-proposes the reopening of the 2003 amnesty and the League calls for the amnesty of pre-1985 abuses. Remaining in the background - but not too much - are the issues related to future appointments, in particular to Consob and Rai. A new confrontation on the issue is not excluded at the Cdm to be held on Friday, in which regulations in support of the hauliers should arrive. Salvini and Giorgetti," explain the Carroccio, "are in constant contact to find as many resources as possible despite the rigidities and stakes of the EU.
"If it continues like this, the government will not finish the legislature, although they will do everything they can to make it to the last," predicts M5s leader Giuseppe Conte. "The government is paralysed, Salvini evokes elections. But wasn't everything going well?", ironizes the Dem group leader in the Chamber, Chiara Braga. "Total chaos now reigns in the majority," Angelo Bonelli observes from Avs.
