Salvini reaches out to northerners: open to strengthening the team with governors, ministers and mayors
The League leader has signalled a willingness to strengthen the team with representatives from the North, emphasising the importance of fiscal measures targeting the banks and a hard line on immigration
“I fill my days with work, with commitment, with listening to others – even on Saturday 22 August – because for a Minister of Transport and a secretary of the Lega, there is no such thing as a Saturday or a Sunday.” Matteo Salvini made this remark whilst on stage at the Lega party in Pinzolo, responding to a question about criticism from the northern wing regarding his leadership of the party. “I am willing,” he clarified, “to share my responsibilities with everyone, to strengthen the team, and to involve governors, ministers and mayors.”

“I believe that asking for a small portion of the tens of billions of euros in profits that the banks have made in recent years to be returned, so that it can be reinvested in pensions, jobs and security, is the right thing to do, both socially and economically.” Matteo Salvini made these remarks whilst speaking at the Lega party in Pinzolo (Trentino). “I’d like to see someone tell me, ‘No, you can’t tax the banks.’ And they’ll have to explain it to me,” added the Deputy Prime Minister. “I have absolutely nothing in common with the left-wing Spanish government,” he emphasised, “yet they did implement a tax measure on the banks. The result: the Spanish state collected around 5 billion euros and the Spanish banks made profits running into the billions. The same will happen in Italia.”
