BERLIN - We are at the IFA in Berlin, Europe's most important innovation fair, which opens its doors tomorrow 5 September. As per tradition, announcements start arriving the day before and Samsung starts with the unveiling of the Galaxy S25 FE, the latest addition to the Galaxy S25 family, which serves as the 'gateway' to the Galaxy AI universe, with a more affordable price tag than the top of the range but without sacrificing the features typical of high-end models. "The Galaxy S25 FE plays an important role as a gateway to the Galaxy AI ecosystem," said Jay Kim, Executive Vice President of Samsung Electronics.

User-friendly artificial intelligence

.

For once, however, let's not start with the technical features or functions, but with the new One UI 8 interface that incorporates the new version of Galaxy AI, the engine driven by artificial intelligence that aims to make the virtual assistant more natural and versatile, thanks to multimodal functionalities capable of combining voice, touch and visual input.

Among the most curious new features is Gemini Live, which allows you to frame an object with the camera and receive contextual responses in real time. A practical example? Before setting off on a trip, one can compare two outfits and ask which one is best suited to the destination's weather. Added to this are tools such as Now Bar, which brings useful information directly to the lock screen, and the Circle and Search with Google function, designed for those who play games on their smartphone and want advice without interrupting their session.

Samsung has also paid a lot of attention to the security chapter. New is Knox Enhanced Encrypted Protection (KEEP), which creates encrypted storage areas for each application. In this way, personal data remains isolated and protected, with the possibility of storing it entirely on the device thanks to the Personal Data Engine and Knox Vault protection.

Photography and creativity enhanced by AI

.

The Galaxy S25 FE also has a strong focus on photography, which has always been one of the hallmarks of the Galaxy series. The 12-megapixel front camera, together with the ProVisual Engine, delivers sharper and more realistic selfies, while the Nightography technology optimises image rendition in low-light conditions. In video, Super HDR support delivers more vivid colours and sharper contrasts.

Artificial intelligence also enters editing: the Generative Edit function automatically suggests how to remove unwanted elements from photos, while Instant Slow-mo turns any video into slow motion with a tap. Tools such as Photo Assistant and Audio Adjust complete an arsenal designed to make life easier for photo and video enthusiasts.

Performance and design

.

Under the body, the Galaxy S25 FE mounts a 4,900 mAh battery with up to 45W fast charging, flanked by a larger vapor chamber for more efficient heat management. The 6.7-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X display with 120 Hz refresh rate promises fluidity and brilliance, while the Armor Aluminum body ensures robustness and lightness.

The design recalls the minimalist style of the Galaxy S25 series, with four colours designed for a young and dynamic audience: Icyblue, Jetblack, Navy and White. On the durability front, Samsung guarantees seven years of software and security updates, a detail not to be taken for granted in a market where the longevity of devices is increasingly important.

Prices and promotions

The new Galaxy S25 FE will be available from 4 September in Italy in three configurations: 128 GB for €769, 256 GB for €829 and 512 GB for €949. Until 1 October, the launch promotion allows you to get the higher version at the same price as the one immediately below. Also included is a free six-month access to Gemini AI Pro.

The One UI8 is also on the tablet

The Galaxy S25FE will not be the only device to get Samsung's new interface straight away. The 11-series tablets, Galaxy Tab S11 and Galaxy Tab s11 Ultra, will also benefit immediately. The new tablets differ mainly in screen size, 11 and 14.6 inches respectively, and focus on a mix of AI, productivity and slim design. Samsung's idea is to use the One UI 8 interface to bring multimodal AI into the workflow: Gemini Live interprets what the user sees on the screen or with the camera in real time; quick commands activate summaries of articles and saves in Samsung Notes without switching apps. The redesigned S Pen improves accuracy and comfort, while tools such as Drawing Assistant and Writing Assistant speed up drafts, notes and revisions.

On the productivity front, Samsung DeX introduces extended mode for a true dual screen with external monitor and up to four customisable workspaces. On the move, with Book Cover Keyboard Slim, the tablet transforms into a complete workstation with a dedicated Galaxy AI key.

Both models are available immediately at prices starting at EUR 899 and going up to EUR 1,459. Until the first of October, a promotion is running that allows you to buy the versions with mobile connectivity and more memory at a discounted price.
