Agreement between Sanlorenzo, the Ministry of Enterprise and Made in Italy, Invitalia and the Region of Tuscany to promote technological and sustainable innovation in yachting. The luxury yachting group led by Massimo Perotti and its subsidiary Bluegame (as a participating party) have signed the agreement with the institutions, worth a total of EUR 91.5 million, 11.8 of which will come from public funds, which envisages the implementation of an industrial investment programme, including 200 new hires.

The agreement signed by Minister Adolfo Urso, say Mimit, has as its objectives 'an increase in production capacity, the design and production of vessels aimed at a lower environmental impact - with benefits in terms of reducing energy consumption, lowering exhaust emissions, waste management, and safeguarding the marine habitat and biodiversity - and an increase in employment'.

Two projects on production and two on industrial research

.

The programme, consisting of two production investment projects and two industrial research and experimental development projects, will be implemented in the regions of Liguria and Tuscany, at the company's four main plants in La Spezia, Ameglia, Viareggio and Massa.

The industrial research and experimental development projects, they clarify at the ministry, 'focus, in particular, on maximum sustainability and technological innovation, especially in terms of green fuels and materials, applied to product development, as well as digitisation of services and processes'.

The investment projects, closely related to industrial research and experimental development, concern, on the other hand, "a significant increase in production capacity, the reconversion of disused industrial areas, and a redesign of factory spaces according to the most modern production best practices".

Two hundred new posts by 2026

The programme, considered to be of strategic importance by the ministry, in relation to the territorial context and the production system involved, foresees, as mentioned above, significant effects on employment, with the objective of hiring more than 200 direct workers by 2026, as well as 'a more than proportional employment effect,' say the Mimit, 'on the entire supply chain'.

The agreement signed envisages, therefore, a total investment of 91.5 million, for which the ministry will provide more than 11.3 million euro in subsidies. The Region of Tuscany, for its part, has formalised its willingness to co-finance projects in the area, for a total amount of EUR 500,000.

The agreement will be managed by Invitalia, which, on behalf of Mimit, will carry out the preliminary investigation for eligibility for subsidies.

Three business units

.

"The agreement," says Massimo Perotti, Chairman and CEO of Sanlorenzo, "adds a further important step in our vision of sustainable development of luxury yachting and of the ecosystem in which we operate and which we continue to enhance. We are happy to be able to count on the support and collaboration of the institutions, to support Sanlorenzo in its role as an ambassador of excellence and competitiveness of Made in Italy in the world". Andersen Italia assisted the company in formalising the project documentation.

The activities of Sanlorenzo (a shipyard founded in 1958 and acquired in 2005 by Perotti, which made it one of the world's top three producers of yachts over 24 metres) are now divided into three business units: the yacht division (which builds composite boats between 24 and 40 metres); the superyacht division (aluminium and steel hulls between 44 and 73 metres); and the Bluegame division (sport utility yachts in composite between 13 and 23 metres). The group employs over 1,200 people.
